Unlock opportunity

‘Thrive: The Shawbrook Apprenticeship programme’ helps you take the first steps in your career and beyond, and unlocks opportunity:

    • We actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds
    • You’ll have a permanent job – we’re taking the worry away from day 1
    • You’ll earn a great salary (£25k p/a) with excellent benefits
    • GCSE grade 4/5, C or above in Maths and English is the only academic attainment entry requirement to join us on the programme. Students without respective qualifications will be considered in line with any extenuating circumstances
    • You’ll also be gaining an industry recognised level 3 apprenticeship qualification – what’s not to love?

Who is Thrive for?

Our programme is aimed at 18 to 24-year-olds looking to kick start their career, whilst studying towards and advanced (level 3) apprenticeship. We will be flexible on age criteria for applicants who are care leavers or disabled, in which case you must be 29 or younger at your start date.

If you’re passionate about technology and lending, are motivated and enthusiastic, while wanting an amazing career at an equally amazing company, this programme is for you.

The qualification

You will study towards an advanced (level 3) technology or business and management apprenticeship. With each Apprenticeship, Shawbrook will partner with a dedicated training provider who will support your ongoing learning and help you work towards your qualification.

You’ll also have unlimited access to our online learning system, which provides training on a diverse range of subjects. On top of that, you’ll experience immersive on-the-job learning whilst working alongside our experts – allowing you to truly understand our business and start your career.

What’s involved?

We have 8 roles available – 5 in Technology and 3 in lending. Opportunities are located in Shawbrook’s operational hubs Brentwood (Essex), London and Redhill (Surrey).

The programme will run for two years encompassing a number of rotations empowering you to become proficient across either technology or lending – you’ll get the skills and experience you need to take your career with Shawbrook to the next level.

It’s an exciting opportunity where you’ll be working to help develop and deliver our services. You’ll be working with passionate people, working alongside experienced professionals, developing real-world skills alongside your classroom training. You will put theory into practice every day.

Technology:

  • You’ll start off by spending 12 months in our Chief Technology Office: your first 6 months in either Data, Delivery, Infrastructure, Cloud or InfoSec; moving into a final 6 months within one of the other areas. You’ll truly get to understand the building blocks of our technology and innovation.
  • Months 13-18 will be a rotation within the business focussing on FinTech and how Shawbrook uses FinTech expertise to enhance our customer journeys- you’ll be at the front line in the application of new technological advancements to our products and services.
  • The final 6 months, 19-24, will be with the operational side of the business, to help you understand both the inner workings of customer-service and our customer-facing operations, and the critical role technology and people play in that.

Lending:

  • You’ll start your lending journey with one of our sales teams, spending 6 months getting to know product design, marketing, origination and how we ‘do business’.
  • Months 7-18 you will be immersed within our underwriting and operations team where you will learn more about the customer journey, interact with our customers and understand, and apply, how we assess ‘taking on’ financial risk – in simple terms, what we need to do to lend money safely and responsibly for both our customer and the Bank.
  • Months 19-24 you will spend within the business area’s First Line of Defence where you’ll be fully involved in managing risk; from implementing actions to managing and treating risk, right through to risk assessments and identifying emerging risk. You’ll be working to keep the customer and Bank protected!

We’ll support you every step of the way!

Your Line Manager will set you up with an individual learning plan and goals to help you complete your apprenticeship and to identify any training that you’ll need to be successful in your role.

To make sure you’re set you up for success, from day 1 you will have a member of the Senior Leadership team as a coach and a colleague as a buddy. And once you’re established in the programme, we’ll look for you to be a buddy, using your experience to guide and support new young talent.

In year two you’ll join our mentoring programme where we can really help you unleash and reach your potential.

The icing on the cake? You’ll establish a community where you will support each other, identify ways in which we can improve the programme, and welcome and grow new young talent as they join…you’ll be our programme ambassadors!
