  • Excedar Group, a permanent holding company building a platform in UK critical power, has acquired Specialist Power Systems, a Bedford-based specialist in UPS and standby power systems serving customers nationally.
  • The funding supports the acquisition and provides committed capacity for future acquisitions.
  • Shawbrook provided a funding package comprising a term loan and a committed acquisition facility.

Excedar is a London-based permanent holding company that acquires and builds specialist technical service businesses, with an initial focus on critical power. Specialist Power is its first acquisition and the foundation of its critical power platform.

Specialist Power designs, installs and maintains uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and standby power systems, which provide immediate battery backup when mains power fails or fluctuates. This keeps equipment running until a generator starts or mains supply is restored. Its customers span healthcare, corporate, data centre and IT infrastructure, scientific research, hospitality and utilities. Specialist Power’s solutions are mission-critical in any setting where an interruption to power would have serious operational consequences and, in some cases, regulatory implications.

Excedar approached Shawbrook directly to fund its acquisition of Specialist Power Systems Limited and support further acquisitions as part of its buy-and-build strategy.

Shawbrook’s funding package includes a term loan to support the acquisition of Specialist Power Systems Limited, and a committed acquisition facility. The funding supports Excedar’s immediate acquisition objectives while providing capacity to pursue future opportunities as it continues to develop its position in the critical power market.

Specialist Power is a leading independent in the sector, with high-quality contracted revenues from serving loyal customers with its first-class engineering team. It is Excedar’s first acquisition and the foundation of our critical power platform. Shawbrook understood the scale of our ambitions from the outset and moved quickly to deliver a facility that funds this transaction and gives us committed capacity for the acquisitions that follow.

Henry Lynn Chief Executive of Excedar Group

John Palmer, Senior Director, Corporate Leverage at Shawbrook, commented:

“Excedar has a clear ambition to build its presence in a sector where dependable power infrastructure is essential. Having got to know Henry and the team, and understanding their growth plans, we recognised the opportunity to support the acquisition of Specialist Power as the first step in building Excedar’s position in this important market. The funding supports the acquisition while providing capacity for Excedar to pursue further opportunities as its strategy develops. We look forward to supporting the team through the next phase of growth.”
