Enhancing the customer journey with secure ID checks

We have introduced new secure biometric ID checks to fast-track onboarding when we cannot verify a customer’s identity electronically.

To better support our brokers and their customers, we have introduced an important step in our onboarding process. Where we are unable to verify identity electronically, customers will now be invited to complete secure biometric ID checks via a secure link from LexisNexis® Risk Solutions IDVerse®, our ID verification partner.

This verification is straight-forward and replaces manual checks. It also provides additional fraud protection for both your customers and Shawbrook.

Although the process is quick and easy to complete, some customers may have questions and we have therefore prepared some Frequently Asked Questions, which you may wish to share with your customers.

We understand it’s important to be cautious with any email asking for personal information.  

Here’s how you can be sure this message is genuinely from Shawbrook Bank.

  • We only send ID check requests after you’ve applied for finance with us, either directly or through a broker.
  • The email will come from a verified Shawbrook address: verify.shawbrook.co.uk
  • The link leads to a secure page starting with https://, which helps protect your data.
  • We’ll never ask for sensitive details like your bank login, PIN or full passwords via email.

Your information is encrypted and securely stored by ID Verse, in line with UK data protection laws.  We only use your biometric data for this identity check - it won’t be used for anything else.

The link is active for 30 days. If your link has expired, get in touch with us and we'll send you a new link.

If your phone’s location settings are turned off, you might see this prompt. Don’t worry – you can still complete your application without sharing your location.

You’ll need one valid photo ID and one document with your address from the list below.

Proof of Identity acceptable documents:

  • UK or international passport.
  • UK or EU full photo card driving licence.
  • UK photo card provisional driving licence.
  • UK issued firearm certificate/shotgun licence.
  • Valid EEA travel documents or official EU ID cards.
  • HM forces photographic ID card.   

Proof of Address acceptable documents: 

  • Bank, Building Society, Credit Union statement, dated within the last 6 months.
  • Current local authority council tax notification valid for the current financial year.
  • Current UK full photo card driving licence.
  • Current UK photo card provisional driving licence.
  • Current old style UK driving licence (no photo).
  • State benefit notification letter dated within the last 12 months.
  • Credit card statement, dated within the last 6 months.
  • Mortgage statement from a recognised lender, dated within the last 12 months.
  • Utility bill - gas, electricity or water, dated within the last 6 months.
  • Telephone bill, dated within the last 6 months – mobile phone bills cannot be accepted.
  • Sky or cable TV bills, dated within the last 6 months.     

Document requirements:

  • Must be valid and in date.
  • If applicable, it must be signed.
  • Full details must be visibly clear and legible. Any poor-quality copies will be rejected.
  • Name, address and date of birth must match those supplied in the application.
