Richard Pyman,
CEO

Richard Pyman, has run Shawbrook Asset Finance (formerly Singers Asset Finance) since 2005, and holds an M.A. in Modern and Medieval Languages from Cambridge University and an MBA from City University Business School.

Richard previously held positions on the Banking side of Singer & Friedlander between 1991 and 2004, which included Head of Credit (2000-2004), during which time, in addition to his asset quality/risk management responsibilities, he managed S&F's relationship with the Rating Agency Fitch, and was significantly involved with the regulatory side and led S&F's debut debt issuance in 2004/05.  During the tenor of his leadership of SAF, it has made three acquisitions and one divestment, all of which he has led for SAF, as well as completing the AAA rated securitisation in 2010.  Richard is also a non-Executive Director of Arkle Finance and Weatherbys Bank.

 

Tom Wood,
CFO

Tom brings significant experience of banking and financial management from his experience in a number of roles.  He was most recently Finance Director of NBNK Investments plc. and previously Group CFO of Skipton Group. Tom, a qualified accountant, began his career in financial services with Barclays where he held a number of senior roles in Finance, Risk and Corporate Development.  Subsequently he was Group CFO of Derbyshire Building Society playing a key role in its successful merger with Nationwide and played a leading role in the restructure of Northern Rock in 2009.  Tom takes on the role as CFO at Shawbrook to firmly establish the bank’s position as a UK challenger bank.

Philip George,
Managing Director

Philip George is Managing Director of Shawbrook Bank Ltd. Prior to this Philip was Managing Director of Commercial First Mortgages since 2003. During this time Commercial First became the leading specialist commercial mortgage lender with over £2bn of originations to 10,000 customers. In 2009 Philip also became Managing Director and co-founder of Link Loans Ltd, a prime secured loan lender.
 
Prior to joining Commercial First Mortgages in June 2003, Philip, a qualified banker, had been the Managing Director of First National Bank – the leading finance house specialist lending arm of Abbey National plc. His career with First National spanned over 30 years, culminating in Philip taking the helm at First National Bank in 1997.

 

Stephen Johnson,
Managing Director, Commercial Lending 

Stephen is a qualified chartered accountant with over twelve years of experience in building specialist lending businesses, primarily with operational and commercial experience of the UK intermediary market. Stephen was part of the founding team at Commercial First and established a key profile in the intermediary market, building close working relationships with a number of the significant loan distributors and wider IFA and Mortgage networks in the UK. Stephen is now Managing Director, Commercial Lending at Shawbrook Bank.

 

 

 

Nick McAuliffe,
Managing Director, Consumer Lending

Nick brings with him 20 years’ experience in the finance industry, having worked across a number of high profile organisations including Commercial First Mortgages, GE Capital and First National Bank.  With extensive commercial knowledge and a strong background in B2B sales and operations, Nick has held executive roles as COO at Shawbrook, Sales Director and General Manager at GE as well as e-commerce Manager at First National Bank.

With extensive exposure to rating agencies, investors, regulators and financial institutions as well as clients, Nick has been integral in delivering key initiatives such as business development and growth, change management and business transformation programmes. In his current role, Nick is driving ambitious growth plans across a number of new sectors in the consumer lending arena.

 

 

Jim Cannon,
Managing Director, Asset Finance

Jim has been in the finance industry for 36 years. He started his career with Bowmaker and worked for a small number of finance companies (including Hitachi) before joining Singer & Friedlander 15 years ago to establish Block Discounting.

In 2005, Jim became CEO of Singers Corporate Asset Finance, eventually becoming Managing Director of the Corporate division of Shawbrook Asset Finance in 2013.

 

 

Nicholas Ellis-Calcott,
IT Director

Nicholas has over 11 years’ experience of IT within Financial services. He has been IT Director of Shawbrook since its creation and through his career has led many critical infrastructure programmes including systems integration and separation, harmonisation of systems post acquisition activity and heads the bank’s disaster recovery provisioning.

Prior to Shawbrook, Nicholas was part of the founding team of Commercial First Mortgages as IT Director being responsible for the implementation and administration of all IT systems and infrastructure and played a key role in the launch of the first commercial mortgage application portal ‘Cfirst’ a platform that received industry wide success. Nicholas has worked on a number of million pound projects and has a track record of building highly available and highly resilient systems and infrastructures.
 

 

Claire Withey,
Human Resources Director

Claire has specialised in HR for over 20 years, working at senior executive level with both board members and senior management teams and is a fully qualified Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.  Integral in driving key initiatives, her expertise extends across a number of business critical activities including organisations development, change management and restructuring programmes.

Claire’s career started at the Bank of England in the Central Gilts.  She then went on to hold various HR positions, UK and global, with a number of dynamic blue chip organisations including AMEC Group Plc, Atos Origin, KPMG, Barclays, and Commercial First. She also holds an array of experience working with SMEs and start-up businesses, recently implementing strategy to guide Shawbrook through a number of merger and acquisition activities.

 

 

Daniel Rushbrook,
Legal and Compliance Director

Daniel holds a law degree from Oxford University and a Masters law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and worked in commercial private practice in the City for 9 years, first with Linklaters then Macfarlanes. In 2004 he became the first in-house lawyer for Commercial First Mortgages Limited, joining its Board as Legal Director a year later. Daniel transferred to Shawbrook in 2011 as part of the Commercial First management team.

Daniel is responsible for all legal and compliance matters in the Bank and has over 8 years experience of leading the compliance function of FSA regulated institutions.
